Home Battery Scheme Subsidy being reduced as of 15 April 2020

The uptake of the Home Battery Scheme since its launch in October 2018 has been very positive, with the number of subsidy applications being made monthly rapidly increasing towards the end of 2019.

To ensure the Scheme meets its objective of issuing up to 40,000 subsidies, the subsidy levels and cap will start decreasing from 15 April 2020.

As of 15 April 2020, new subsidy levels and cap will be implemented.

Step One subsidy Effective 29 October 2018 – 14 April 2020

Energy concession holder   $600 per kilowatt hour (kWh)

All other households             $500 per kilowatt hour (kWh)

Maximum subsidy per battery installation   $6,000

Step Two subsidy Effective 15 April 2020

Energy concession holder   $400 per kilowatt hour (kWh)

All other households             $300 per kilowatt hour (kWh)

Maximum subsidy per battery installation   $4,000

To be eligible for the Step One Subsidy levels ($500 per kWh / $600 per kWh non-concessional) and cap ($6,000), subsidy applications must be lodged and conditionally approved before Wednesday 15 April 2020.

Applications lodged on 15 April 2020 onwards will be subject to the Step Two Subsidy levels and cap.

Households can ensure that they receive the current subsidy levels by:

  • Requesting and accepting a quote from a System Provider
  • Working with their System Provider to ensure that they have received conditional approval for their subsidy within the Ratesetter platform by midnight, Tuesday 14 April 2020
  • Ensuring that their System Provider installs their approved home battery system within the timeframes outlined in the Scheme’s Subsidy Terms of 12 months for new builds and 6 months for all other properties.

The South Australian Government will be monitoring uptake throughout the year and further incremental reductions in the subsidy may occur before the end of the year.
