Save Up to 80% of Your Hot Water Costs

Thanks to the government incentives, you can get a 270L heat pump fully installed from $1,499 if you’re eligible for all $2,800 in rebates*. PLUS you’ll save up to 80% of your ongoing water heating costs.

But HOW?

Simply put, they work like a reverse refrigerator by transferring heat from the air through a heat exchange system to heat your water.

By concentrating this existing heat, rather than creating more, heat pumps use around 60 to 75% less electricity than a conventional electric hot water system.

So by upgrading to a heat pump, you’re minimising your electricity usage, reducing your carbon emissions and increasing your energy efficiency – so ultimately, you save on your bills.

Here's The Questions We Get Asked The Most By Our Customers

This sounds too good to be true, what's the catch?

There is no catch! The Victorian Government provides financial incentives to install energy efficient equipment and appliances in Victorian homes. These upgrades use significantly less power to deliver the same level of hot water, reducing electricity demand and prices.

How do I know if I’m eligible for this offer?

To be eligible for the Solar Home Heat Pump rebate, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You are the owner-occupier of an existing property where the system is to be installed
  • The combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $210,000 per year
  • The property is valued at under $3 million
  • The property address has not previously received a hot water rebate under the Solar Homes Program. For example, if a householder has previously receive a hot water rebate, they cannot receive another hot water rebate for the same property
  • The hot water system to be replaced is at least three years old from the date of purchase

To be eligible for the STCs and VEECs rebates, you must be a Victorian household and have an existing inefficient electric or gas hot water system.

Is it worth upgrading to a heat pump?

The answer is YES, regardless of whether you currently have an electric resistance or gas hot water system.

The exact running cost of a heat pump will depend on usage, electricity tariff and pump model BUT, you’ll be cutting your hot water bills by up to 80% by upgrading to a heat pump hot water system.

If your household currently uses gas, it’s also important to know that gas is forecast to become more expensive (and, it’s being phased out).

How long does the installation process take?

The installation of a heat pump hot water system typically takes 4–6 hours, depending on your home’s layout and any additional work, like relocating the system to an external area. Your installer will be able to provide a more accurate time estimate based on your specific situation.

Will my heat pump work effectively during winter?

Yes, most quality heat pump models work well in winter. Some are designed specifically for colder climates and include defrost features to prevent freezing. If you live in a particularly cold area, ask your installer about low-temperature models to ensure consistent performance in winter.

Is there a limit to how many times I can apply for the Victorian Hot Water Rebate?

Yes, the Victorian Hot Water Rebate can only be applied to a property once. This means that if your home has already received a rebate under this program, you won’t be eligible for another.

What is the payback period for a heat pump hot water system?

The payback period varies depending on the upfront cost, rebates received, and the system’s energy savings. Typically, a heat pump’s lower operating costs allow homeowners to recoup the investment within 3–6 years. Exact figures depend on your household’s hot water usage and local electricity rates.
